Sony Entertainment Television’s, much-loved quiz show, ‘Kaun Banega Crorepati Season 16, has consistently brought families together, with its intriguing questions and life-changing prize money. Contestants from various walks of life have graced the iconic hotseat, bearing dreams ranging from fulfilling their parents’ wishes to overcoming financial hardships or realizing personal aspirations.
These dreams fuel the drive of the contestant’s desire to come to the hotseat, and win big. In the Independence Day special, inching closer to fulfilling his dream by taking the hotseat is Unnao’s 22 year old Sudheer Kumar Verma; who strives to uplift his farmer family’s fortunes and dreams of providing them with every comfort.
Belonging from a lower economic background in Unnao, Uttar Pradesh, contestant Sudheer Kumar Verma, is a farmer and student who juggles between helping his father with farming duties while pursuing his studies for the BTC (Basic Training Certificate), and simultaneously preparing for government exams. He comes from a very small village called Aganekheda, a village not even listed on Google Maps and lacks basic infrastructure.

With his father’s support, Sudheer’s completed his education, but hasn’t been successful in securing a good job; which has led to people in the village making fun of him. He has always had faith in his education, and getting the opportunity to be on KBC is his answer to those who doubted him. Despite these hardships, Sudheer continued to study and is pursuing a teaching career to improve local schooling and his family’s circumstances by securing a job.
With farming being the primary career for his family, Sudheer Kumar Verma’s father rents additional land for cultivating other crops, but they are obliged to share 50% of the profits with the landowners, leaving them with minimal earnings. Hence, KBC has emerged as a ray of hope for Sudheer, as he aims to use the winnings to buy 2 bighas of land for his father until he becomes self-sufficient to support the family.
Sudheer Kumar Verma who came along with his mother, deeply moved everyone with his respectful and responsible thought of being a helping hand to his family. With a determined attitude, Sudheer confidently went on to answer each and every question; making the game play even more interesting. In a sweet moment, Sudheer went on to ask Mr. Amitabh Bachchan to recite a dialogue from Agneepath, leading Mr. Bachchan to share a memorable story about how he developed the iconic baritone for his role.

Grateful to have got the chance of being on Kaun Banega Crorepati, Sudheer Kumar Verma went on to share, “ I remember when I was coming here a lot of people were passing taunts and making fun of me and my educational background; but I knew and believed that my education will help me change my life; but I didn’t feel the need to answer them back because I knew the platform that I am going on will be the answer to all the challenging situations in my life.
And, I am glad to be here on Kaun Banega Crorepati as It’s helping me use my knowledge to make my and my families dreams come true, of buying a land for my father and secure a better future for us.”
Happy with Sudheer’s performance, Mr. Bachchan went on to praise Sudheer’s knowledge as his handwork is quite evident in his game play.
