Sony SAB’s ‘Dhruv Tara – Samay Sadi Se Pare’, narrates the story of Dhruv (Ishaan Dhawan) and Tara (Riya Sharma), intertwined with love and time travel. The show moved from the 17th century to the 19th century, paving the way for a new story and new actors, with Pankaj Dheer and Neelu Vaghela joining the cast as Dhruv’s parents.

In a candid conversation, veteran actor Neelu Vaghela opens up about joining the show as Dhruv’s loving and compassionate stepmother.

What excited you to be a part of Dhruv Tara?

Neelu Waghela – Firstly, I am very excited to be a part of Dhruv Tara because it is my first time to be associated with Sony SAB. Secondly, Dhruv Tara is already a hit show and I love the pairing of Dhruv and Tara. I am glad to be a part of it. My character Raj Rani is a different character from what I have usually played. I think the audience too will be excited to see me in something different. It will be a welcome change for them as well.

Can you tell us a little about your role on the show?

Neelu Waghela – It’s a very positive role and strong character. I am playing a wife, a mother, and eventually a mother-in-law so there are three types of emotions and feelings that I will be portraying. I love to do emotional roles and very lively and happy family kind of roles and here I am getting a chance to do all of that. On the show, our family is very simple and relatable and the scenes are so beautiful that as an actor, you enjoy doing such scenes.

What challenges did you face while portraying a character from the 19th century, especially in terms of mannerisms and language?

Neelu Waghela – I did face many challenges. The tone with which Raj Rani speaks and getting into the look of a 19th-century woman was a bit of a challenge and there was a little time to prepare as we started shooting a bit earlier than anticipated. But I would like to thank the teams who helped me and guided me in the journey and transformation from Neelu to Raj Rani.

Raj Rani is described as a positive stepmother who loves all her children equally. How did you prepare for such a nuanced character?

Neelu Waghela – She is a strong, positive, and emotional character. Even though she is a stepmother she loves all her kids equally sacrificing many things for their welfare. Being a mother in real life, it was easy to get into that shade of the character. In daily soaps, we often get more chances to portray a negative mother than a doting one. I love my character of Rajrani.

Can you share some insights into Raj Rani’s relationship with Dhruv and how it evolves throughout the show?

Neelu Waghela – Dhruv Tara

Dhruv doesn’t like Raj Rani that much as he thinks that she is not her real mother, but that’s where Raj Rani comes in and decides to turn this negativity into positivity. So that’s what the audience is going to see through this mother-son duo, and I hope at some point people will find it relatable as well. It is an interesting character because, unlike your regular stepmother, Raj Rani ensures that the family is always together, and all her kids are loved equally. She always wants the best for her family.

How has been the audience feedback on your role so far?

Neelu Waghela – The audience loves seeing me in Rajasthani outfits and I am getting a lot of calls from people saying they love my character in Dhruv Tara. So it feels very good when fans like your performance and motivate us as actors to do our best for them.

Tune in to watch Dhruv Tara every Monday to Saturday at 8 PM only on Sony SAB.
